Reasons Why Nice Guys Finish Last In Business

Questions may spark over why nice guys finish last. In the business world, the competition is though and harsh. Many of the survivors are the opposite of ‘nice guys'. People that are selfless sometimes have to face the bitter fact that they lose. This intrigues the curiosity on the reasons why nice guys finish last. A few facts can be the answers.
There are some factors that cause nice guys to earn less than their peers. This happens because those who are less agreeable are seen as tough negotiators. They stick to their visions and principles. Not being easy in bargaining can help someone to earn more than being nice and easy to agree on many things. Those who are low in agreeableness usually earn more favorable individual settlement than agreeable people.

Agreeable people are less likely to voice out their opinions. They probably have many innovative ideas that left unsaid because they don't want to challenge difference, and even more if it's a great difference. When it comes to leaderships, nice guys are sometimes not the ones to look up to as they tend to wait for the consensus to be formed first to voice out their opinions, unlike assertive people who straight up stating their opinions. A leader that isn’t afraid to say his opinions to move without waiting for the majority opinions is viewed better as they can lead confidently.

Nice guys who are selfless are also at risk. Other people can take advantage of their selflessness and in turns, the nice guys are on disadvantage instead. Being too nice and let people jump ahead of them can affect their career progression in the competitive world of business and career.

In the career aspect, nice people are less favored by many employers than people who are aggressive and competitive simply because those traits are viewed as indicators of competence and ability.

Summary: There are some reasons on why nice guys finish last. Sometimes, nice guys are seen as less tough, less aggressive, less competitive, and less competent.
